Month 7: Safe Lifting & Transfer Techniques
South Carolina's required Month 7 competency topic: body mechanics and safe transfer and repositioning methods to protect both you and your client.
60 minutes · Certificate on completion
Why Body Mechanics Protect You Both
Back and shoulder injuries are among the most common on-the-job injuries for caregivers, and they usually happen not from one dramatic incident but from repeated small strains -- lifting with the back instead of the legs, twisting while holding weight, or reaching too far. Protecting your own body isn't separate from protecting your client: an injured caregiver can't safely assist anyone, and rushed or poorly executed transfers are also the leading cause of client falls during care.
