Why This Matters

Caregivers are often the only outside person a vulnerable adult sees regularly, which puts you in a uniquely important position to notice and act on signs of abuse or neglect that others might miss. South Carolina law and SC DHHS training rules require caregivers to know how to recognize and report abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and financial exploitation. This isn't a box-checking requirement -- real people's safety depends on caregivers taking this seriously and knowing exactly what to do.
